The Joy Light

Joy is like the sun. It never really goes anywhere or disappears. With the rotation of our perspective around it, we may turn away for a time or even fear in that dark night it is gone for good. But there it is, always burning bright in its barely contained ball of massive, explosive energy, radiating light & heat that can still be felt intensely even at great distances.

That joy light is rising in me right now, shining as long & bright as summer solstice sunshine, warming up the whole world & invoking all day play in the world of sensual experience.

Sunrise - 8.8.13
I see the pleasure thrumming all around me in green waves of light + life, the flourishing nature of Love. I hear the birdsong of the morning for the celebratory hymn that it is & I trill in unison with the trumpeting sandhill cranes just outside the door. I taste the breath I breathe & the soft moisture hanging in the air (it would form the flavor of dew drops were my tongue a blade of grass). There’s that subtle scent of morning, the smell of quiet + the odor of the awakening earth

And, ever so subtly, I feel the pitch of our planet hurtling through space + the spin of its rotation surging beneath my feet.

This simple moment – being awake, alive + aware that I Am – is experiential ecstasy.

May the rays of joy illuminate your day + your life,

  1. The Joy Light – this makes me think of the Joni Mitchell song which describes the sun pouring in like butterscotch and sticking to all her senses. You always write so evocatively about morning! This piece is visceral yet delicate…
